Does a Totalitarian Spaceship Need a Democratic Control System?

Such meaningless questions naturally arise in one's mind after reading Vyacheslav Alexandrovich Gerovich's book "The Mythology of the Soviet Space". It appears that the book (at least in its Russian translation) is aimed not at specialists - historians of cosmonautics, astronauts, space industry engineers - but at what might be called the general reader, preferably one born after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The book was originally published in English in 2015 (Gerovich, 2015), translated into Russian and published in 2024, and we are reading it now in 2025, a decade after the English original appeared.
