Abstract

The article is devoted to the role of nature in the life and work of the outstanding Russian geologist Vera Alexandrovna Varsanofieva (1890–1976). She loved nature since childhood and this was largely due to her choice of profession, which allowed her to participate in scientific expeditions in almost unexplored territories. But she wanted not only to study nature, but also to protect it. The author of numerous articles, books, lectures, and various initiatives, she devoted time and energy to the struggle for nature protection in the USSR for many years, played an outstanding role in the struggle for the preservation of the Soviet reserve system in the 1950s and early 1960s, although her contribution is almost forgotten today.
