Abstract

The interactions of the Komi ASSR authorities with a regional academic institution, the Base of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the Komi ASSR, are analyzed based on the documents from the Komi Republic National Archive. Particular attention is given to the materials of the 1947 and 1949 inspections of the Komi Base's activities by the Obkom (Oblast Committee) of the All-Union Communist Party (of bolsheviks), VKPb. These documents shed light on the scientists' research areas that were closely monitored by the authorities, on the aspects of ideological work at the institution and the influence of the Komi ASSR party bodies on the formation of its research plans, and on the Communist Party's role in the formation of the ideological framework for scientific work. It is concluded that the ideological party control had a significant impact on the Academic institution's activities.
