From the History of Preparation of Visual Sources of Information in Neuromorphology
Full text (PDF)Abstract
The article discusses an aspect of preserving the history of neuromorphology, i.e. the preservation of neurohistological preparations from the 19th/20th century when а manual
method of impregnation with silver salts, a painstaking and technically very difficult process, was used for staining nervous tissue. The complexity of this technique is shown and
the works devoted to making it more stable and reliable are analyzed. It is maintained that all histological preparations of nervous system structures, stained using the technique of
impregnation with silver salts, should be preserved in the museums of the departments of morphology, as in the 21th century other methods are used in nervous tissue studies and
staining is automated. Digitizing the 19th/20th century histological preparations using digital slide scanners is an important resource for preserving the history of neuromorphology.
