Abstract

The article examines the formation of the jubilee tradition of the Russian Academy of Sciences and St. Petersburg University in the 18th—21th centuries. Both organizations are
now celebrating their tercentenary, associating their foundation with the name of Peter
the Great and the same date, 28 January (8 February, New Style) 1724. The article shows
that the jubilee commemorations have become an occasion for the creation of texts on the
history of these institutions and, at the same time, reflect essential aspects of the corporate histories of the Academy of Sciences and St. Petersburg University, a social context
of the history of Russian science.
