Consequences of the VASKhNIL August Session for the Kazan Biologists

There are considered the consequences of the August session of the Lenin All-Union
Academy of Agricultural Sciences (August 1948) for scientists of the Biological Faculty of
Kazan State University. The events that led to the dismissal of the oldest scientist, Professor
Nikolay A. Livanov, from the head of the Department of Invertebrate Zoology and the dismissal of Associate Professor Zoya I. Zabusova are described. Also, there is briefly described the history of the Department of Genetics and Darwinism, established in September 1948, whose task was to promote "Michurinsky biology" and the teachings of T. Lysenko.
