Trofim Lysenko’s “New doctrine of Species”: Reconstruction and Critique

This is a review of M.V. Vinarsky’s book “Trofim Lysenko’s ‘New Doctrine of Species’:
texts and contexts” (2024). The book examines T.D. Lysenko’s doctrine of species and
considers the novelty of the proposed concepts. Without delving into the political underpinnings of Lysenkoism, it looks into the history of the concepts of species within the
framework of “new biology” and the influence of these views on the modern theory of species. The main points of Lysenko’s doctrine are reconstructed. The history of criticism of
Lysenko’s ideas in the 1950s and 1960s is described.
