Abstract

The article examines the decoration of the newAkademicheskaya station on the Moscow
Metro’s Troitskaya Line, which is dedicated to the history of the Russian Academy of Sciences, from the Petrine era to A. N. Nesmeyanov’s presidency. A detailed analysis of visual elements on the walls through the ‘prism of an interested viewer’ reveals several issues: inaccuracies in the portraits of prominent scholars, errors in the depiction of the
symbols of their scientific work, and the presence of characters unrelated to the history of
the Academy. These flaws reduce the educational value of the station’s decoration.
