The article offers a historiographic analysis ofthe first study dedicated to the history ofthe
Free Economic Society. It provides biographical information about its author, Alexei Ivanovich Khodnev, Doctor of Physics and Chemistry and the Society’s Secretary, and explains his reasons for pursuing this topic. The book’s contents are analyzed and the author’s approaches to studying historical material are described.
