Full text (PDF)Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of the professional activities of one of the first hydraulic engineers who worked in Russia, John Perry. Based on a wide range of sources, including domestic and English-language historiography, characteristics of both the Russian and European stages of his biography are given. As the study showed, though a number of projects started by the engineer in Russia remained unfinished, he successfully completed several complex and socially important hydraulic engineering works in England in 1693–1697 and 1712–1732. Thus, J. Perry became one of the most authoritative and recognized experts in the construction of hydraulic structures of his time.
